The Fish Pie

Scandic Foods were asked to assist in the recipe development of a chilled fish pie with the brief requesting that we sourced all of the main ingredients.

Key requirements

Every forkful of the fish pie had to have a piece of fish which included IQF salmon fillet pieces, IQF smoked undied haddock fillet pieces and whole tiger prawns. All of these had all to come from sustainable sources.

Scandic response

Using our knowledge of how fish behaves in the production of meals and how it cooks.. We sourced sustainable IQF salmon pieces, tiger prawns and haddock pieces.

Working with a development team we developed a number of samples for the client and refined the offering following feedback.

Client response

Once the final recipe was agreed production started and product delivered into the stores. This was achieved within three months of receipt of the initial brief with the fish pie (need proper name) being launched with range of 5 other frozen meals.

The Co-operative truly irresistible fish pie remains one of the Coop's best selling lines in the sector to date.
